March 9: *John Carter of Mars (or, actually, it looks like they’ve shortened it to just ‘John Carter,’ but I like ‘John Carter of Mars’ better and think that captures the essence of the movie’s weird awesomeness better than ‘John Carter’ =P) is sci-fi (my favorite kind of movie 0=)). It is directed and written by Andrew Stanton (there are other writers as well, but I don’t really know who they are), who has directed and written three movies for Pixar (WALL-E, Finding Nemo, and A Bug’s Life), which was the original reason that I was excited to see it, but, after seeing the trailer, there is no way a sci-fi fan who is not a snob cannot be excited for it. ^_^ It looks really fun and like it could be a movie that gives new life to the sci-fi genre (and/or be the Star Wars of this year. Here’s hoping =P). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nlvYKl1fjBI
March 30 The Pirates! Band of Misfits is by the folks who made Wallace and Gromit and Chicken Run, so it is claymation (crazy hard work that stuff is, which just makes it so much more amazing). As with all their previous work, it looks like it will be really fun, adventurous, and just generally a bit insane. And, come on, who doesn’t love pirates?? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZzddJ-yxaqY
April 13 *The Cabin in the Woods is one of three movies coming out this year that are written by Joss Whedon. And if you know me at all, there is really nothing else to say. Or, well, there is, but I’ve said it all before. Basically, The Cabin in the Woods is Joss Whedon making a horror movie. I wasn’t very excited for this movie when I heard about it, just because I’m not really a fan of horror, but, after seeing the trailer and from the look of the poster, it looks like it might be a sort of sci-fi-y horror movie (that’s just my sense), which would make a horror movie more appealing to me. Lyss is going to force me to go to it, so I don’t think I have much choice in the matter. Knowing Joss, it will probably be utterly terrifying and I won’t be able to sleep for weeks, but whatever. =D http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OJUIgf7lsCYMay 4 *The Avengers... What can I even say?? This is the most anticipated of the three Joss Whedon movies coming out this year and that is for good reason. A LOT of good reasons. =P Captain America, Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr, come onnnnn!), Thor (Lokiiiii!), the Hulk, Hawk Eye (!!!!), and numerous other smaller superheroes ALL IN THE SAME MOVIE.
Robert Downey Jr and Joss Whedon. (I have now decided, yet again, after watching the trailer and getting hyper, that RDJ and Joss need to do more movies together because RDJ can really pull off the lines Joss writes with the perfect, sassy aplomb. They’re just a perfect match, GOSHDARNIT.) Did I say SUPERHEROES?? And, gosh, Marvel. I know there were other reasons I thought of while watching the trailer, but they kinda slipped my mind while watching the rest of the trailer. Basically, what I’m saying is the Avengers is gonna be freaking amazing. I’d say it’s my most anticipated movie of the year, but this is the same year part 1 of the Hobbit is coming out... =P Anyways, check out this trailer (and, honestly, all the Avengers trailers are so good it’s hard not to go watch all of them when I watch one, ‘cause I’M FREAKING DYING HERE). Okay, I’ll stop now. 0=) Watch the trailer. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eOrNdBpGMv8&ob=av3eMay 25 Men in Black 3 is the third movie in the Men in Black trilogy...series? =P (Real shocker there, eh?) I mainly am just looking forward to this because I really enjoyed the first two (and, I mean, Will Smith... Come on =D). They’re crazy, fun, hilarious sci-fi movies. And the third looks just as silly. I might not see this right away in theaters, but I’m definitely going to watch it sometime. It’ll be enjoyable. The trailer actually makes it look more exciting than the other two, mainly because it looks like there’s time travel (and who doesn’t love a bit of time travel? =P). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IyaFEBI_L24
June 22 Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter has a title that just makes me want to see it. If nothing else, it will be entertaining. There does not seem to be a real trailer for this yet (sadly enough). I don’t know much else about it besides the fact that it has a hilarious title. *shrug*
*Brave is also coming out on June 22nd and, well, it’s the Pixar movie of the year, so there’s no doubt that I’m going to go see it on the day of premiere. It looks freaking gorgeous (which is nothing new with Pixar movies, but it doesn’t stop me from being amazed every single time they let out a new movie) and then, of course, GINGERS. Who can freaking resist gingers? And a whole adorable family of them?? Anyways. It looks like a blast of a movie. Watch. The. Trailer. XD http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TEHWDA_6e3MJuly 3 The Amazing Spider-Man I used to be excited for, but... well, I’d be thrilled if they made a Spider-Man movie with the sarcastic, sassy, hilarious Spider-Man from the comics. Why do they feel the need to turn it all serious? I just don’t understand. I also don’t like that it seems that they are making all the traditional Spider-Man swinging and climbing into part of the feel of the movie - and that feel makes it look like a video game. There is a chance it could still be pretty good, but at the moment I’m not super thrilled. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_XayxMPrUP4
July 20 *The Dark Knight Rises is the last movie in the Batman trilogy by Christopher Nolan. The first one was good, and the second was absolutely amazing, and the third is looking to at least be good as well. Anne Hathaway plays Catwoman, which is going to be incredible, and, while the trailer is kinda pathetic, it still looks like the trailer for a pretty cool movie. If it lives up to expectations, it could be one of the top movies of the year (after the Hobbit and the Avengers, of course... 0=)). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9R6zD8VcQTQOctober 5 Frankenweenie has no real trailer as of yet, but it is, presumably, going to be a full length version of a short film that Tim Burton made years ago. As a lover of Tim Burton’s stop motion, I’m excited for this. They haven’t done a very good job at advertising it yet, though. December 7 Les Miserables, the musical, is being made into a movie and the cast itself is what excites me. Anne Hathaway as Fantine, Hugh Jackman (have you seen him sing and dance?? oh my gosh!) as Jean Valjean, Helena Bonham Carter as Madam Thenardier (who is more perfect, seriously??), Russell Crowe as Inspector Javert (should be interesting)... Wow. On the other hand, here is no trailer yet, sadly (not surprisingly, though, considering the release date and that it’s a musical), so no previews to view... =(
December 14 *The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey. Sequel. Lord of the Rings. What else to say? I mean, besides the awesome actors. Watch the trailer. You will become impatient. ARGH. COME OUT ALREADY GOSHDARNIT. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T90Holdcrps Undecided Release Date *Much Ado About Nothing is yet another without a trailer, sadly enough. It is the last of the three Joss Whedon movies coming out this year. It’s made by Joss and his wife’s production company, Bellwether Pictures and is a modernization of Shakespeare’s Much Ado About Nothing (real shocker there). And it has Nathan Fillion! (Heh heh heh.) Basically, there’s no way it won’t be awesome. I also believe I read somewhere that it’s going to be black and white? Or maybe I made that up. Anyways, it’s supposed to come out this year but there hasn’t been an official release date appearing anywhere yet.
